In a controversial move, Kollywood producers had decided to ban media people who give out harsh reviews to movies from attending events, including media screenings and promotional events, related to films.

According to media reports, the decision was taken by Tamil Film Producers’ Council Consulting Union and South Indian Film Media PRO Union who were reportedly upset with journalists who are extremely critical of movies. There was also a threat of legal action against those reviewers who are overly harsh, in a circular issued by the forums.

The decision, however, was withdrawn in the wake of mounting protests. The PRO union, during a meeting with media persons from Tamil Nadu, reportedly admitted that the words used in the circular were wrong.

The circular had said those who write negative reviews will not be invited to Tamil movie related events. It had further stated that legal action will be taken against such reviewers.

They had also decided to stop giving away gifts to media people who are attending movie screenings and film related promotional events. The forums claimed that these decisions were taken to limit the expenses incurred by movie producers.
