Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker is known to wear her heart on her sleeve when it comes to matters of politics.

The actor, who recently made headlines after she tweeted that she was considering voting for Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru this time and asked which constituency he would be representing, decided to lend her support to CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar who is fighting the election from Begusarain Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar.

The actor, who turned 30 on Tuesday, chose to spend her birthday in a unique manner by campaigning for Kanhaiya Kumar. In a statement, Swara Bhasker said, "It is a rather unusual way of spending one's birthday. But Kanhaiya is a friend and I think he is fighting an important battle on behalf of us all. If he wins, it will be a victory for Indian democracy," according to an IANS report.

The actor, who is a self-professed critic of the right-wing, admitted that she has no idea how an election campaign is being held, but decided to rally behind Kanhaiya Kumar as she feels "aligned to Kanhaiya's views as a rational and patriotic citizen of the country".

According to IANS, the actor said she backs Kumar as he raises issues that concern all Indians, including the problem of unemployment, the threats that the Constitution is facing and the need for social justice. " I think as responsible and patriotic Indians we should all feel aligned to this ideology/or thought process," she was quoted as saying.

Earlier, backing Kanhaiya Kumar's crowdfunding initiative to finance his election campaign, Swara Bhasker had tweeted: “@kanhaiyakumar represents the politics of principle. He is the unafraid voice of reason, sanity & the values of the Indian Constitution. We need young, educated people of integrity in #Parliament Pls contribute to his election campaign”.
