Google Doodle on Wednesday marked the 145th birth anniversary of noted Indian dancer and singer Gauhar Jaan.

Born on June 26 in 1873, she was the first Indian to record music on 78 rpm records in the country. She was also signed by the famous Gramophone Company in India.

The legendary Hindustani classical music singer's real name was Angelina Yeoward. Her grandmother was a Hindu and her grandfather was a British.

Later in 1880s, Angelina converted to Islam along with her mother and became Gauhar Jaan.

Besides being noted for her bhajan performances, Gauhar also popularised light Hindustani classical music with her kajri, chaiti, thumri, dadra and tarana renditions.

Her most famous songs are Mora Nahak Laye gavanava, Jabse Gaye mori sur huna live, Ras ke Bhare Tore Nain mere Dard-e-jigar.

She died at the age of 56 on January 17, 1930.
