Any state government would like to have a preference for local people in jobs. The idea is to ensure that more local people get jobs in the private sector as well. The only way to ensure this is to give them the best skill sets. The government of Karnataka is coming up with a more disruptive plan to ensure that every Kannadiga is the most skilled human resource in the world and that is how we are going to ensure that we skill locally and do locally. These remarks were made by Priyank Kharge, IT-BT Minister of Karnataka.
He said that the 14-hour workday shift in the IT sector was an industry-driven request and already states such as Gujarat, Odisha, and Telangana etc were having it.
“We are evaluating it as of now and it is very industry specific. It will not happen without the consent of the industry. As of now it is just a thought process and we need to have multi-department consultations on this issue,” said Kharge. He was speaking in Bangalore on the sidelines of the preview of the 9th Edition of TiE Global Summit (TGS) 2024, scheduled for December 9th to 11th in Bangalore and December 12th, 2024 in Mysore.
“Bangalore is the 5th largest unicorn hub in the world with 45 unicorns in the IT city. There are 38 percent soon-to-be unicorns in the country in Bangalore alone. Our state is home to a thriving ecosystem supported by over 400 R&D centers and leading technology firms, making it a powerhouse of innovation,” said Kharge.
The TiE Global Summit (TGS) 2024 is a collaborative effort with other TiE chapters in Karnataka and is being supported by the Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) and the Government of Karnataka as the Host State Partner. Under the theme "Putting Entrepreneurship First," the summit aims to create an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem, democratising opportunities and uniting the global entrepreneurial community.
The summit is also expected to host over 25,000 delegates including 5,000 plus startups, 750 plus investors, 300 plus corporates, 150 plus speakers, and 10,000 plus Futurepreneurs, from across India and more than 50 countries.
Speaking at the event, M.B. Patil Minister of Commerce and Industries and Infrastructure, pointed out that as far as the employment for local people is concerned nothing will be forced on the industries. “We will continue our dialogue with all the industry stakeholders. There should be no panic or fear in the industry regarding this issue but our dialogue will continue,” said Patil.
The curtain raiser event also announced that registration for the 2nd edition of the VentuRISE Global Startup Challenge, an initiative by the GOK, is now open for global start-ups. VentuRISE ’24 will concentrate on Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), Auto or Clean Mobility, and Aerospace and Defence. This challenge will offer startups a platform to tackle industry issues and connect with investors and corporate accelerators.
"VentuRISE ’24 the startup challenge initiative aims to position Karnataka as a global innovation hub, promoting the state as a preferred destination for startups in manufacturing and allied sectors by facilitating connections with investors and industry partners. We are excited to participate with TiE Global for the VentuRISE '24 event and are committed to making this year's event even bigger and better by introducing new initiatives, expanding mentorship programs, and attracting a wider pool of global investors,” added Patil.
