The government is set to launch a dedicated online portal to help customers register their complaints about the services they purchased and to name and shame violators.
According to a Mint report, the portal will be launched on Friday (March 15, which is World Consumer Rights Day) by the consumer affairs ministry for the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), in a bid to contain constant violations of advertising guidelines.
"The portal will display all the final judgments issued against entities involved in misleading ads, violation of consumer rights, such as coaching institutions or service providers, so that consumers can know the exact status of their grievances," the news portal quoted a source as saying.
The portal comes four years after the establishment of CCPA to regulate matters relating to the violation of the rights of consumers, unfair trade practices and false or misleading advertisements which are prejudicial to the interests of the public and consumers as a class.
CCPA was established in 2020 under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
