Food delivery startup Zomato kicked in the New Year on a high buoyed by record sales during New Year's eve. At its peak, the company was serving 4,254 orders per minute, CEO Deepinder Goyal tweeted on Friday. The company clocked in 60 per cent more in terms of gross merchandise value (GMV) than last new year’s eve, he added.

"The demand last night was much higher than what we could process. We ran out of delivery partner capacity much before peak time. If we had unconstrained supply, we could have hit Rs 100 crore of GMV yesterday. Need to do better next time," Goyal tweeted.

He added that the company worked with approximately one lakh delivery partners to fulfill the deliveries on New Year's eve.

Goyal also sounded optimistic about India's startup growth story. "India has arrived. I strongly believe that Indian startups do not need to look out to other countries for growth. There's a tremendous amount of market depth in India... Generally, what works elsewhere, doesn’t win in India. And what wins in India, doesn’t work elsewhere," he said in a series of tweets, adding the hashtag 'Build For India'.
