The last budget of the current NDA government will be presented on February 1 during the budget session of Parliament. The budget session of Parliament is likely to be held from January 31 to February 13, government sources said on Wednesday.

The interim budget assumes significance as it will be the last one ahead of the general elections this year. The Modi government is expected to present a populist budget in an attempt to please the majority population in view of the setback the BJP faced in the Hindi heartlands during the recently declared assembly election results.

The sources also added that the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs deliberated on the dates for the budget session at a meeting. The budget session is also likely to be the last session of the current Lok Sabha as general elections are due in April-May.
