YOGA MADE EASY

Stretch, twist, relax

  • MODEL: YUKTHA JAYAGOPAL

The spinal column connects the pelvic girdle and the shoulder girdle. It also supports the three major cavities—chest, abdomen and pelvis. These cavities house various organs. In particular, the abdominal cavity hosts a number of organs (stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas, small and large intestine), and a good supply of blood and removal of toxins is essential to keep them in top form. Here are postures that benefit the trunk and abdominal muscles and mitigate the stiffness of the lower and upper back.

METHOD

* Sit close to the wall on a folded blanket.

* Sit upright with left knee touching the wall.

* Gently twist and place the right palm between the left knee and the wall.

* Touch the wall with the left hand.

* Flex the left hand and place the palm on the wall.

* Press the wall with both palms and twist the trunk as much as possible; turn the neck in the direction of the twist.

* With every inhalation try to lift the trunk up and with every exhalation try to twist the trunk more.

* Stay for about 30-60 seconds with slow and deep breathing.

* Slowly return to start, change side, repeat and relax.
