INTERVIEW

I want to start from scratch, like her

29-Deepa-Jayakumar Deepa Jayakumar | R.G. Sasthaa

Interview/ Deepa Jayakumar, Jayalalithaa’s niece

Will you claim Jayalalithaa’s properties?

I am not going to get into any controversy. I have the right to claim the properties, no doubt. But, I am not interested in them as of now, and my only concern is that the party, which my aunt built up with all her hard work, is split. But, if there is going to be any dispute or complication regarding the properties, I will get into it.

As a blood relative, do you think you are her true legal heir?

Legally, my brother and I have all the rights. As she wasn’t married, the properties will come to us as per the succession law.

Will you go to court?

I don’t need my aunt’s money or property. Like her, I want to start from scratch.

But what if someone else takes possession?

My only concern is what she actually wanted during the last few days, what her last words were. If I had been with her, I would have definitely asked her what she wanted. These people [Sasikala and her family] want the party, too, and they don’t even say what my aunt wanted. They definitely want to snatch all the properties. They don’t have any role as far as the assets are concerned. The family should hand over the properties to the government or to the legal heirs.
