How long will you wait for a person you have met online only two months ago and have never met in person. An hour may be? Two? A day?

A love-struck Dutch man waited at the airport for 10 days for a Chinese girl he met online two months ago. According to media reports, 41-year-old Alexander Pieter Cirk met a 26-year-old Chinese woman known only as Zhang in an app. They began chatting and soon fell in love.

He decided to visit her and flew from Holland to Hunan in China. He had informed her about his visit and even sent pictures of the air tickets. However, when Cirk reached Changsha Huanghua International Airport in Hunan, he did not find the girl waiting for him. Her mobile remained switched off.

He refused to believe that he has been stood up and began waiting. For the next 10 days, he continued to wait even as his health began deteriorating. He was eventually taken to a hospital as he suffered physical exhaustion. Cirk was discharged from hospital on Monday.

When contacted by the media, the girl said she had turned her phone off as she had gone to another province for a plastic surgery.

“We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous towards me,” she was quoted saying. She claimed that although he had sent her photos of the air tickets, she thought it was a "joke."
