At least five people were injured on Saturday by a man wielding a knife in Germany's Munich.

The police said that no one had received life-threatening injuries, but urged citizens to stay in their homes and avoid the Rosenheimer Platz area as the assailant had escaped after the incident and was at large, reports Efe news.

"We are looking for the perpetrator with all available agents," said the city's police force, adding that the suspect was in his 40s, wearing a green jacket, grey trousers and carried a rucksack with a sleeping bag.

He fled on a black bicycle.

The motives behind the attack were unclear.
