The bodies of a couple were found in a car by the police in a locked garage in the city of Bottrop in West Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia state. It is assumed that the couple were having sex as the bodies were naked.

Police assume that the 39-year-old man and the 44-year-old woman turned on the heating in the car as it was very cold outside. This might have led to their suffocation. The names of the dead have not been released.

Police say that nobody noticed that the car engine had been running for a very long time in the garage which was locked. The garage metal door was broken open after the family of the man reported that he had been missing for days. Reports also say that the woman's parents alerted the police about her disappearence and the police had initiated a search.

Police clarified that there was no doubt of any foul play in the death of the couple. Forensic tests were being carried out to ascertain what occured behind the closed garage door.
