Ravi Dixit, a squash player who own gold at 2010 Asian Junior Championship is making headlines for all distressing reasons. Desperate to take his career to next level, the player had put one of his vital organs for sale on social media as he was unable to find a sponsor.
Ravi has been training in Chennai to take part in South Asian Games. However, he has so far failed to get a sponsor who can fund his game campaign. He was funded by his father's employer the Dhampur Sugar Mill. However, now he has said that the fund is not enough to further support his career.
According to reports, Ravi at least needs Rs 1 lakh to participate in South Asian Games.
In a Facebook post, which has been now deleted or hidden, Ravi had announced that he is ready to sell his one kidney.
“I have lost my determination. I am ready to sell my kidney. If anyone needs a kidney, they can contact me. The price of my kidney is Rs 8 lakh (sic),” read Ravi's post, according to media reports.
As Ravi's post stirred up the internet, BJP leader and former Dhampur, Uttar Pradesh, MLA Ashok Kumar Rana has come forward to fund his game campaign.
Ravi's call for help has once again brought forth the sorry state of sports in India, barring cricket.
According to reports, about 90 per cent of sports targeted advertizing funds spent on cricket.
Although his post is thought-provoking, Ravi's attempt to sell his kidney is illegal.
