The Argentina hockey team seems to be on a history-making spree. Having humbled Spain 2-1 in the quarterfinal to reach its first semifinal, the South American team punched well above its weight by demolishing reigning Olympic champions Germany 5-2 in a one-sided contest.
Germany, which came from two goals down to win 3-2 against New Zealand in the quarterfinals, never really recovered from the onslaught by the Argentine onslaught. In fact, the men in white and blue were 4-0 ahead in the third quarter.
Though the Germans, who had won the gold in 2008 Beijing Olympics, too, managed to pull a couple of goals back, the damage was done.
Argentina will face Belgium or the Netherlands, who will lock horns later in the day, in the final on August 19.
