Indian skipper Virat Kohli is likely to miss initial matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting April 5, due to shoulder injury. Kohli, who had to miss the series-deciding Test match in Dharamsala, is the captain and marquee player of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. The Indian skipper revealed after the series win that the injury was yet to heal.
"Still a few weeks to go before I can be 100 per cent on field. But these things happen in your career. Got to take it in stride and move forward," said Kohli.
Kohli suffered the shoulder strain while diving in to save a run during the third Test in Ranchi. Though he came out to bat during India's innings, he could only contribute six runs. The match ended in a draw. Ajinkya Rahane, who was the stand-in captain in Ranchi, led the side in the final Test, which India won by eight wickets.
This will undoubtedly be a huge set back for RCB, which was the most popular team last season thanks to the thrilling displays of batting by Kohli and his equally charismatic teammate A.B.de Villiers. RCB has never won the IPL title.
