The relatively new and inexperienced Sri Lankan side have impressed one and all as they beat hosts India by five wickets in the first Twenty20 international match to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, in Pune on Tuesday.
The visitors have got everything in their way together. First, they won the toss and opted to field. Their bowlers, Kasun Rajitha (3/29) and Dasun Chanaka (3/16) did most of the damage, helping bundle India out for a paltry 101 in 18.5 overs.
For the hosts, Ravichandran Ashwin (31 n/o) was the highest scorer while Suresh raina (20) and Yuvraj Singh (10) were others to reach double digits.
Then, when the guests came out to bat, they didn't get the perfect start but D. Chandimal (35) and C. Kapugedera (25) did it with ease. The former then departed after playing superbly but the latter along with Siriwardana took the charge.
Brief scores:
India: 101 all out in 18.5 overs (R Ashwin 31 not out, Kasun Rajitha 3/29, Dasun Chanaka 3/16)
Sri Lanka: 105 for 5 in 18 overs (D Chandimal 35, C Kapugedara 25; R Ashwin 2/13, A Nehra 2/21)
