Season 2016-17 is going to be an unforgettable one for India’s dashing player Harmanpreet Kaur. She has scripted history on multiple occasions. Her heroics in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifier in Colombo was the last ball finish, one that's never to be forgotten. Apart from gaining a reputation of being a match winning, hard-hitting batswoman for Team India, she became the first Indian woman to be signed up for the women’s premier Twenty20 league – the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia.

She has added another feather to her cap by being signed up by Surrey Stars in ECB’s soon to be launched Super League for women’s cricket.

In February this year, playing South Africa in the qualifier and chasing 244 – India’s highest chase thus far in One Day Internationals, Kaur came in to bat with India requiring 97 in as many balls and 7 wickets in hand. Skipper Mithali Raj had to miss the match due to injury. However, more drama followed as India lost 4 wickets for 14 runs.

Kaur was batting in the company of number 10 player Poonam Yadav. Soon, Yadav got out leaving Kaur on strike with India’s number 11. Three dot balls meant India needed 8 in two balls. On the penultimate ball, Kaur smashed a six over mid wicket followed by two and India were home. This was India’s first major tournament victory since 1994.

It made another explosive batsman, Virender Sehwag tweet to her saying, “You are becoming an idol for future generation of women cricketers. Yesterday, you were extra special. Keep up the spirit and belief!” Harmanpreet is an unabashed Sehwag fan herself. Such was the buzz created about that match, the game has got over five lakh views on YouTube, and the last over clip on ICC and BCCI website has got over two million views.

Board of Control for Cricket in India, announced this news on Saturday night – After her impressive debut with Sydney Thunder, star India all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur is set to represent the Surrey Stars in Kia Super League, the T20 tournament hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

An attacking batswoman and a useful off-spinner, Kaur was the first Indian player to be signed playing for Sydney Thunder. She made an immediate impact in her first season, scoring 296 runs in 12 innings at an impressive average of 59.20. She also claimed six wickets. The Indian Women’s T20 captain was adjudged Sydney Thunder’s WBBL Player of the Tournament.

Kaur has played two Tests, 69 ODIs and 68 T20s. She has two hundreds and eight half centuries in ODIs. The BCCI has recommended Kaur and Cheteshwar Pujara for Arjuna Awards this year.

The Kia Super League starts on August 10, 2017, and will see all six teams playing each other once in a league format. The top-ranked side gets a direct entry into the final while the second and third-ranked sides will compete for a spot in the final.
