BCCI denies going slow on Lodha panel report

A day after a reluctant Board of Control for Cricket in India got a clear warning from the Supreme Court to act on the Lodha committee's recommendations, the cricket board on Friday denied it was procrastinating over its implementations.

Speaking after the announcement of India squad for both the forthcoming Asia Cup as well as the ICC World Twenty 20 Championship, Anurag Thakur, BCCI Secretary said, “When the report came, we informed our state associations and asked them to come back with their views. Meanwhile our legal team also met. We are following due process. We are not looking for an escape route. The Lodha Panel took 12 months, we are taking only two months to understand the details.” Thakur announced that a Special General Body meeting will be held in three weeks' time to discuss the way forward.

When asked whether the BCCI will challenge the report in toto as it totally altered its very structure and management, Thakur avoided answering directly but said, “Every member has a right to express its view- state associations are members of the BCCI. We will give our views in SC in the next hearing.”

Thakur himself will be an affected party if the Lodha report is implemented. Under the proposed one man one post policy, the BJP Member of Parliament from Una cannot retain his position as the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association president. “We have the HPCA meeting tomorrow (Saturday) to discuss the issue. We need to find a way out so that the functioning of the BCCI and its member associations doesn't get affected,” said Thakur.

He, however, blamed ousted BCCI president N. Srinivasan for the current predicament being faced by the board. “BCCI paying for the mistakes committed at that (N. Srinivasan's) time. We suffered loss of faith, credibility due to poor decisions taken at that time,” he said.
