Czech Republic's sixth seed Karolina Pliskova beat compatriot Lucie Safarova 7-6(6) 7-5 to advance to the fourth round of the Australian Open.
Pliskova served 11 aces in a match she dominated throughout. Safarova put up a fight, but faltered in the second set as her opponent took the opportunity to serve for the match. The 25-year-old Pliskova served three aces, including one on match point.
This is the second consecutive year that Pliskova has entered the last-16. She will clash with the winner of the third round match between Barbora Strycova and Bernarda Pera.
In the men's singles, fifth seed Dominic Thiem overpowered France's Adrian Mannarino with a 6-4 6-2 7-5 win. Thiem recorded 42 winners in the match, and has now entered the last-16 of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Indian pair of Leander Paes and Purav Raja booked their place in the pre-quarterfinals of the men's doubles event after they beat the English Brazilian duo of Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares.
After winning the first set, Paes and Raja went down in the second, but bounced back to turn the match in their favour. They will now take on Colombian pair of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah for a place in the quarterfinals.
