Non-bailable warrant issued against Dhoni

A non-bailable warrant has been issued by an Andhra Pradesh court against Team India's limited overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni over a controversial magazine cover.

The cricketer has been asked to appear before the court on February 25.

The cover of Business Today showed Dhoni's morphed, many-armed image, holding different products—a bottle of cola, a mobile phone and engine oil among others—in each hand. The story was about the many endorsements the cricketer had in his kitty.

After the ad appeared on the cover, a complaint was registered against the Team India captain for 'hurting' the sentiments of Hindus.

After Karnataka High Court observed that "A celebrity and a cricketer like Dhoni should know the consequences of hurting religious sentiments of people," Dhoni said he did not pose as Lord Vishnu or receive any remuneration for the article appeared on the magazine.

The Supreme Court, in September 2015, had stayed criminal proceedings against Dhoni in connection with the case.
