It looks like cricket lovers of Hyderabad are in for a big treat. Former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin has recently said he is planning to start a 'world class' cricket academy in the city soon.

“I want to produce international cricketers for India,” he said, adding that the life ban imposed on him by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would not come in the way.

“I do not need to take permission to start an academy or to do commentary,” he said to a channel. “I think I can do a lot...I can make sure that the academy runs well and hopefully produce international cricketers.”

The new residential academy will be managed by Azhar’s former Hyderabad teammate Kanwaljit Singh.

Meanwhile, the city unit of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is planning to field Mohammed Azharuddin for the post of the mayor in the upcoming GHMC polls as the former cricketer is hugely popular among youngsters. The party hopes this move would help it revive its fortunes.

However, Azharuddin has sought time to decide on the issue.
