Sorry Malayalis! Neyyappam fails in Android race

nougat-1 Nougat

Internet giant Google has finally announced the code-name of the next upgrade of their Android operating system. And much to the disappointment of the Malayalis, it is not Neyyappam.

Nougat, a Middle Eastern confection, won the tight race to become the sweetest among the competitors.

Ever since Google asked users to come up with a name for their next Android version, Malayalis across the world had been vigorously campaigning to get it named after one of their favourite desserts. And their hope remained alive as Neyyappam was featured prominently on the website where people could give their suggestions.

There were also rumours that Google might choose Neutella, after its senior vice president of Android, Chrome OS and Play store, Hiroshi Lockheimer, tweeted a screenshot of his workstation, with one of the windows showing Nutella as the google search word.

Other major competitors were Nachos, Nori, Noodles, Neapolitan Ice Cream, Napolean Nectar, Nana, Nando’s, Nesquik, Noisette, Nugget, Now and Later, Nature Valley and Nespresso.
