When early explorers set out to discover new lands, most of the people thought that they would never come back, because they believed the world was flat. But the adventurers discovered lands, colonised and ruled them and warred over them. After conquering the earth, they set their sights on space. Now, space is the new battleground and the world is waiting for a space war. But, the Asgardians can save space and the earth.
Asgardia is the first nation state in space—the project was announced in Paris on October 18. The project team is being led by Dr Igor Ashurbeyli, a Russian scientist and founder of the Aerospace International Research Centre (AIRC) in Vienna and chairman of UNESCO’s ‘Science of Space’ committee. The concept is aimed at creating a new framework for regulating and owning space activities. It aims to serve the entire humanity, regardless of individual welfare and the prosperity of any country.
The space nation derives its name from Norse mythology. Asgard is ‘beautiful beyond imagination’ and it is inhabited by the Norse gods. Asgard is familiar to film buffs and comic book followers. “And here (Asgard) we remain as the beacon of hope, shining out across the stars. And though we have fallen into man's myths and legends, it was Asgard and its warriors that brought peace to the universe,” says Odin in Thor. Maybe, Ashurbeyli wants to make Asgardia the beacon of hope, shining out across the stars. Asgardia aims to ‘digitalise’ the Noosphere, creating a mirror of humanity in space but without earthly divisions, which are based on states, religions and nations. In Asgardia, all are only earthlings.
Socium, the company Ashurbeyli started in 1998, employs 9,000 people in six towns. According to the Asgardia project team, the first Asgardia satellite is planned to be launched in 2017 and it will be independent of any current nation state on earth. Within 40 hours of its announcement, more than 1,00,000 people from 200 countries applied for the citizenship.
