The ASUS ROG GL 502 exploits the latest VR-friendly NVIDIA graphics engine
Asus showcased its full line up of 6 gaming notebooks in the Republic of Gamers (ROG) family at the CES show in Las Vegas, earlier this month. The ROG Strix GL502 that I have been trying out, actually came to India in late 2016.
It is among the first to exploit the new GeForce GTX 1070 graphics processor from NVIDIA which is made especially for Virtual Reality applications. In that sense the GL502, is a bit ahead of the curve because VR-fueled games are still thin on the ground.
But hardcore gamers who can afford the Rs 1,81,900 asking price can meanwhile carry on gaming in style, thanks to the generous 1 TB hard drive, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, expandable to 64 GB and the 8 GB of dedicated video RAM. The recent Intel i7 processor clocking at 3.5 GHz will support the zippiest games now available without a stutter.
The Windows 10 pro edition, the currently fastest 802.11 ac WiFi and the USB 3.0 ports all proclaim that is a very contemporary machine and will work well for online competitive gaming.
Like most ROG PCs, this one has a useful Gaming Centre to organise your games and create those very personal keyboard shortcuts that can provide the razor edge for victory. I lack the special skills of the dedicated gamer, but what I did play seemed to be smoother and faster than any machine I have tried in recent months.
