Artisto a Prisma for videos

Artisto-app

Weeks after photo-editing app Prisma took the world by storm, a Russian company launched a similar app, but for videos. Called Artisto, it turns videos into moving oil paintings. Vice president of Mail.ru Group Anna Artammonova said that it took them only eight days to develop the app based on the technology of neural network and artificial intelligence.

With Artisto, you can record or trim an existing video to 10 seconds, which is ample enough for social media sharing sites like Vine and Instagram.

There are 14 filters inspired by legends such as Picasso, Dali and Van Gogh. With names that are as artistically creative as its filters—Neural Art, In the Flame, Blue Dream, Art Nouveau—the app promises to deliver “the super effects that were available only to DreamWorks, Pixar, Disney and other famous studios”. They have also added a Rio Olympics filter.

The ad-free app is available on Google Playstore and the Apple Store.

Launched on July 29, the app is just into its second week, so minor bugs and glitches are to be expected. After applying the filter, it takes a few seconds to process (largely dependent on internet speed). The watermark is not optional, unlike in Prisma, which might be a problem for some users.

While some users complain that the filters are limited, they are convinced when they see the beauty of the results.

Prisma, which has more than 10 million downloads in its first month, recently announced that it would be releasing a video version of its app, although Artisto has beat them to it.

Before Prisma and Artisto came into the picture, apps had a single filter for the painting-like effect, with limited customisations.
