US-based tech major Apple will start selling its special 'RED' edition of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in India from April.

The new edition was introduced by Apple to symbolise its fight against AIDS.

"The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT) RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can't wait to get it into customers' hands," Apple CEO Tim Cook stated.

Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition will be available in vibrant red aluminium finish, in recognition of more than 10 years of partnership between Apple and (RED), the statement said.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition will be available in 128GB and 256GB models starting at price of Rs 82,000 from Apple Authorised Resellers.

While both the special edition models will be available worldwide beginning March 24, and start shipping to customers by the end of March in the US and more than 40 countries and regions, shipments to "Brazil, Chile, Colombia, India, Turkey and other countries will follow in April," the statement said.

Apple is the world's largest corporate donor to the Global Fund, contributing more than $130 million as part of its partnership with (RED).

(RED) provides access to life-saving HIV/AIDS programs in sub-Saharan Africa, which is home to more than two thirds of the world's HIV-positive population.

All money raised by (RED) goes directly to Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants that provide testing, counselling, treatment and prevention programs with a specific focus on eliminating transmission of the virus from moms to their babies, the statement said.

Apple also unveiled an updated version of its iPad tablet with a brighter screen on Tuesday, available to order from Friday and with a $329 starting price that is the lowest ever for a full-sized tablet from Apple.

Apple also said its smaller iPhone SE model will be available in 32 and 128 gigabyte (GB) versions, replacing the 16 GB and 64 GB models.

The hardware updates are incremental improvements that were announced without a major media event. Apple is widely expected to unveil an update to its flagship iPhone this fall that might have new features such as wireless charging, 3-D facial recognition and a curved display.

The new iPad model starts at 32 GB of storage and replaces the iPad Air 2. It will be slightly less expensive than the smaller iPad Mini 4, which starts at $399 for a 128 GB model.

Apple also announced a new app for creating videos and sharing them with friends on its iOS devices. The new feature, along with extra iMessage features released in recent years, pushes Apple closer to competing with the features in social networking apps like Snap Inc.

The new app, called Clips, lets users add captions and speech bubbles to videos and share them on social networks such as Facebook, Instagram or Apple's own messaging app, where videos can be sent to contacts with a single tap. But unlike Snap or other messaging apps, users can add captions to videos using their voice.
