Twitter video goes professional

  • Periscope allowed Twitter users to upload and broadcast live video from their phones. Now it is being extended as a service for corporates

Twitter always allowed its users to instantly share live videos to Twitter and other social network using the Periscope app. They could broadcast privately to specific followers or friends.

Now the social media leader has come up with a corporate avatar of the tool -- Periscope Producer. It allows enterprise brands, media organizations and other live video creators like news organizations to share high-quality, live video on Periscope and Twitter. They can broadcast higher-quality content through professional grade cameras and streaming software with minimal setup, provided they meet some broad parameters set by Periscope.

This seems a lurch on the part of Twitter towards monetizing what has been free service with a huge following, but no revenue stream.

Among early corporate users are: ABC's Dancing with the Stars, Louis Vuitton, The News & Documentary Emmy Awards, Walt Disney Studios and XBox UK.

Partners interested in setting this up can learn more by speaking with their Twitter representative and applying at t.co/periscopeproducer.

Many corporates use YouTube as the prime channel to disseminate their marketing videos. But Twitter may be able to bring an immediacy to its Periscope offering that businesses seeking to put out live content might seriously consider.
