Startup Studio expands to a 100-seater, adds 16 new entrants

A new batch of 16 startups will join the SAP Startup Studio accelerator programme in an expanded incubator that can host 100. The 16 startups are working on technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud, Machine Learning and IoT across various business functions.

Now, in its second year, SAP Startup Studio, SAP’s dedicated programme to drive entrepreneurship in India focuses on early or growth stage startups that leverage disruptive technology to solve business challenges.

The Startup Studio, which operates out of the SAP Labs India campus in Whitefield, was launched in June 2016, as a dedicated one year mentorship program that provides participants with the foundation needed for their success beyond the program.

Startups from last year’s inaugural batch have seen the benefits of the programme. Sellerworx, an ecommerce technology solutions and services firm, was acquired by Capillary Technologies, and Ecolibrium Energy, a provider of energy management solutions was absorbed into the Co-Innovation Labs(COIL) programme at SAP.

Says Bernd Leukert, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, Products & Innovation: “India is a significant hub in the global technology startup scene. Supporting entrepreneurism and new talent is crucial for the future of technological innovation, and the SAP Startup Studio makes startups ready for success."

For the second round, the SAP Startup Studio received over 700 applications; 51 startups were chosen for the final round of interviews, from which the final 16 were chosen for the programme.

To provide startups with opportunities to connect, collaborate and grow, SAP Labs India hosted the SAP Startup Social event on April 20, 2017, attarcting 250 participating startups. The event saw 20 curated startups pitch their ideas to 20 top venture capitalists. Nandan Nilekani, entrepreneur, bureaucrat and politician who formerly was the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), was the chief guest at the event..


New innovation space

Last week, SAP launched the Gerhard Oswald Innovation Space in Whitefield, within its campus in Bangalore. The state of the art facility is named after a former member of the SAP Executive Board, who played a significant role in driving SAP India’s growth during his tenure at SAP. The facility is spread across 5.15 lakh square feet and will accommodate over 2,500 of SAP Labs India’s employees. The new facility which sits within the SAP Labs India campus.

SAP Labs India is now the second largest Research & Development (R&D) facility for SAP globally, among its network of 19 labs in 16 countries. It plays an important role in the research and development of SAP’s key products and solutions such as SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA, and holds key product responsibilities across the Customer Engagement, Human Capital Management, Analytics and Internet of Things (IoT) portfolios.

The design of the new facility enables collaboration and teamwork with liberal open space incorporated into the work space, such as the creation of 500 meters, dual lane synthetic jogging track!
