  • Opera has unveiled a trial version of its new concept browser, Opera Neon

The days are long past when web browsers were about documents and pages. Today users work with media-rich resources like photos and video—and demand visual ways of searching.

This has prompted Opera, the independent browser from Norway, to attempt a complete overhaul of its product without sacrificing its special features like native ad blocking and the free Virtual Private Network feature. The result is the concept and testing version of Opera Neon which any one working on Windows or Mac can download from www.opera.com/neon.

Opera Neon provides a new look and feel while adding new features like the ability to drag and push things around, and to "pop" content from the web.

New features include:

- A left sidebar with video player, image gallery, and download manager.

- A new visual tab bar on the right side of the browser window, making it easier to distinguish the relevant tab.

- An intelligent system which automatically manages tabs. Like gravity, frequently-used tabs will float to the top, while rarely-used tabs will sink to the bottom.

New ways of enjoying web content include:

- Video pop-out, which lets users continue to watch videos when on other web pages

- Snap to gallery - snapshot and crop any part of a web page and save to the gallery for later use.

A split screen mode which allows for two pages to easily be opened and simultaneously used.

Opera Neon will not replace the current Opera browser. However, some of its new features are expected to be added to Opera this spring.
