LinkedIn is the world's largest online professional network with 500 million members world-wide, 42 millon of them in India. It has recently launched a 'lite' version of its app tailored to run on mobile devices rather than on a desktop. LinkedIn Lite’ is an app for Android phones and tablets and occupies less than 1 MB of space.

The lite version of LinkedIn was fully developed in India by its R&D team based in Bangalore and after its launch to Indian users, it will be offered in over 60 countries. It has been written to work even on basic 2G phones, where it opens in 2 seconds or less. While clever programming reduces data usage by 80 per cent, it does not compromise on any of LinkedIn's signature features: news feed, jobs, profile, network, messaging, notifications, and search.

Says LinkedIn’s Country Manager for India, Akshay Kothari: "Regardless of their device or location, we hope to level the playing field for all LinkedIn members so they can get closer to their dream jobs, grow their networks and become more successful."

India is LinkedIn's largest market in the Asia Pacific region with over 35 per cent share—and the largest outside the US.
