  • Singapore-based Indian entrepreneur, Carlos Fernandes, disrupted the traditional TV world with Record TV & InstantTV. Now he is set to change viewing habits in India, with Blaze

Carlos Fernandes, is a Bombay University Electrical Engineering graduate , who went on to obtain an MBA at Chicago University. In 2006, he invented and patented the world's first Internet-based Digital Video Recorder and started a company in Singapore. RecordTV was founded on the principle that traditional television needs to be united with the Internet. RecordTV initiated one of the world’s first Over The Top services - and the only service in the world that allowed recording of broadcast content. When the service was first launched in Singapore, it became very popular(today 1 in 8 Singaporeans have the app) but had to sustain law suits from the state owned broadcaster ( which it won).

Out of the learnings of RecordTV was born, the InstantTV service. Using a combination of human input and AI, RecordTV curated internet videos and stitch them together to create linear streams, which can be consumed directly or through any of their partners. With his InstantTV app, you could record broadcast content from hundreds of TV channels around the world and play back at your convenience on your Android phone or tablet. This is free. There is a subscription version without advertisements that allowed full screen play in the landscape mode of your device.

Carlos was in India last month to promote the next evolution of InstantTV : Blaze, a bot to deliver trending content from around the world – whether news, videos and buzz. It is not just another delivery platform but instead aims at the unification of news and commentary. It should be offered by year end through one of the existing Indian content providers.
