5G networks to bring in distinct high speed broadband

nokia-finland-jobs Nokia says they are already working on different aspects of futuristic 5G network

In the future, 5G networks will bring in high speed networks of 100Mbps anytime anywhere at any given location. At the same time 5G networks will also have a lower latency of less than 1 milliseconds and will also enhance the capability of mission critical applications and machine to machine devices. It is being estimated that by 2020, there will be around 50 billion connected devices across the globe and 5G networks will result in machine to machine interaction with better throughput.

Speaking to the THE WEEK on the sidelines of Nokia’s annual event the Bangalore Innovation Day, Randeep Raina, Head of Techonolgy (CTO)-India, Nokia said that the company's Research and Development team in Bengaluru was already working on different aspects of futuristic 5G network.

“Currently, 5G is in pre-standard mode and we are working very closely with the standards body. The 5G networks will be showcased at the Winter Olympics in South Korea in 2018 and at the Olympic games in Japan in 2020', Raina told THE WEEK.

Besides this, there were different demos at the event aimed to showcase that the world is becoming more urbanised, with more and more connected devices around. For instance, for every device connected to the Internet today, 10 more will join it in the near future. IoT (Internet of Things) and smart city concepts will automate people’s lives by connecting mobile devices to appliances, lights, roadway etc. The demos also showcased concepts such as ‘Smart Parking’ which is a smart city initiative that offers vehicle tagging to the respective slot, ‘Video Analytics' which involves real time city surveillance and ‘Public Safety’ involving railroad crossing and trespassing detection to ensure safety of human lives.

The Nokia business groups provides mobile and fixed solutions, IT platforms, analytics, security and related service capabilities such as multi-vendor system integration. The company also supports end-to-end services in connected cars, digital health and smart home and integrates partners via its IoT ecosystem programme.
