Win hearts of people, Modi tells state BJP leaders

narendra-modi-suit (File) Modi also asked party leaders to make conscious efforts to identify with the common people as it is particularly important when the party is in power

Even as BJP President Amit Shah continued harping on the party's newly-created stories of endless sacrifices since India became independent, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked a meeting of core groups of state BJP units to work towards winning the hearts of people.

"Our goal should also be social strength along with political power. It is important that we remain rooted. The core group should become the catalytic agent of collective decision making. This will give a new direction to the party. It will also take the party ideology forward," said Modi.

Modi also asked party leaders to make conscious efforts to identify with the common people as it is particularly important when the party is in power. "We are continuously working for development but there are some elements who do not like it. They are trying to divert our and people's attention. We will have to inform the common man that our sole aim is nation building,” he said.

With elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab due next year, Modi said, efforts like the tiranga yatra would continue even as they continue winning election after election. “Our effort should be to make a place in the hearts of the poorest of the poor by our work for their welfare,” he added.
