Who met Jayalalithaa in hospital? Ministers talk in different tone

A day after the Tamil Nadu government appointed a judicial inquiry commission to probe the death of former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, contradictory statements from the cabinet ministers about her health and hospitalisation have come handy for the meme makers.

Earlier on Friday, forest minister Dindigul C. Sreenivasan had triggered a debate saying no one had seen Jayalalithaa during her 75 days of hospitalisation from September 22 last year and that all of them lied as they were afraid of Sasikala. He made this claim at a public meeting and also apoplogised to the people for having lied to them.

However, on Tuesday, co-operation minister Sellur K. Raju contradicted Sreenivasan's remarks and said, “All the ministers met Amma. She did chair the Cauvery meeting." Another minister Nilopher Kafeel, who heads the labour department, also said she had seen her leader in the hospital when she was “shifted from one room to the other.”

On the other hand, commercial taxes minister K.C. Veeramani endorsed the statement made by Sreenivasan and said: “We were not able to see the late chief minister even one day.” Speaking at a public meeting in Vellore, Veeramani said, "Out of fear of this (Sasikala's) family, we were made to say that 'Amma had two idlis, she spoke and that she is fine'."

Fisheries minister D. Jayakumar clarified that “all the doubts will be alienated after the inquiry commission submits its report.”

Meanwhile, the contradictory statements of ministers have given a field day for meme makers and trollers on social media.
