West Bengal BJP has requested the central leadership to send Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to the state for the 'Modi melas' (fair) which will be organised by the party to celebrate three years of Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

There will be 34 such fairs held across all the 20 districts in the state.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Chhattisgarh Chief minister Raman Singh along with a number of central ministers, many ministers from UP and the central office bearers of the party are expected to attend Modi melas.

The state BJP told THE WEEK that they have approached the Central government to request the UP CM to come to the state to be part of the event as it would boost the morale of party workers. The move comes a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee defied the Centre's order of regulating cow slaughtering.

“He is our very popular leader and it would be great if he visits the state at this crucial hour when we are surging ahead in West Bengal,” general secretary of the party in the state Biswapriya Roychowdhury told THE WEEK.

Roychowdhury said the party norms does not allow them to directly bring a chief minister to the state.

“We would, therefore, have to reach out to central leadership, requesting them to send the Adityanath ji. Central leadership told us they are trying,” he said.
