The huge victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Maharashtra civic polls indicates a clear vote for transparency and the developmental agenda of the state and central governments, says Maharashta Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Addressing media in Mumbai, Fadnavis said the BJP did exceptionally well in the polls and had emerged as the number one party in the state. The credit of this victory went to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party cadre in the state, he added.

"It is an unprecedented victory," said the chief minister and thanked people of Maharashtra for supporting the party

Fadnavis said that whther the party should go for an alliance with any other player would be decided by its core committee. "The core committee will go through and analyse the results and will take a proper decision," he said.

He also pointed out that in at least 20 seats, the party lost in a very thin margin.

The BJP retained power in at least six civic bodies — Pune, Nashik, Ulhasnagar, Akola, Nagpur and Amravati — out of the 10 corporations for which the elections were held.
