Vice President Hamid Ansari will embark on a visit to Armenia and Poland from April 25 to 28. This is his maiden visit to the two countries. He will be accompanied by his wife Salma Ansari, Minister of State Giriraj Singh and four MPs.
India and Armenia celebrate the silver jubilee of diplomatic relations in 2017, though the cultural connect is centuries old. There are Armenian Christians in India even today and several Armenian churches. Secretary (east) Preeti Saran said that Indian cinema and television programmes were popular in Armenia. There are also several IT-related Indian projects in Armenia, though the trade volume remains below potential.
This is also the 60th anniversary of the setting up of the Indian embassy in Warsaw. Saran said that Polish economy was growing and the partnership was mutually beneficial. She said that bilateral trade jumped up by 25 per cent in one year alone. India seeks to partner with Poland in green technology and mining know-how.
