Disaster averted

Pilgrims returning from the holy temple of Badrinath had a narrow escape when a helicopter went off-course in the thick cover of fog near the mountainous region of Nandprayag. Pilot Ravindra Singh managed to successfully land the helicopter at a nearby stadium at Gopeshwar. The incident took place on Tuesday around 3.00 pm when the chopper was ferrying pilgrims from Govindghat to Sahastradhara. Extreme weather conditions and dense fog caused the chopper to veer off course.

IAF on high vigil

After recent reports of violation of the Indian airspace by China in Uttarakhand, the Indian Air Force has stepped up its vigil. According to sources, a few IAF fighter planes were seen flying in Uttarakhand near Indo-China border. But the IAF and local administration have been tight-lipped about it. Such movements have been detected earlier as well. Two PLA (People’s Liberation Army) helicopters were also seen earlier flying in Barahoti area of Uttarakhand near Indo-China border recently. Senior officers of IAF had recently met Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to discuss the matter of Chinese intrusion, but the local administration has described this meeting as routine.

Human trafficking on bikes

Cops posted on the Indo-Nepal border along Banbasa-Champavat patch stumbled across something startling when they checked a few motorcycles. It came to light that women are being trafficked from Nepal to India and vice-versa on bikes. Further investigation revealed that these girls are brought through Uttarakhand to Delhi and then trafficked to the UAE. This has been going on for some time as lax surveillance along the Uttarakhand border provides easy access to India. In this connection, Nepal police have rescued eight women, who were being brought to India through this route. Police from both the side acted swiftly after a tip off, and rescued these women at Chandni Dodhara point in Nepal before they could reach Banbasa.

Favourite shooting destination

Uttarakhand seems to be a favourite shooting destination for cine stars in recent times. John Abraham was seen shooting in Mussoorie for his upcoming film Parmanu, a film based on India's successful nuclear testing in Pokhran. It has been learnt that some portion of this film will shot in Dehradun. Sunny Leone too is likely to shoot MTV Splitsvilla in the state. The reality show is likely to be shot at Jim Corbett National Park. Sunny has been hosting this show for the past three years.
