Upset over exodus, TDP offers perks to party workers

The Telugu Desam Party in Telangana is battling a massive crisis with a large number of party leaders and workers switching loyalties to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, especially after the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

Ten out of fifteen MLAs have so far quit the TDP and joined the TRS. Though a complaint has already been sent to the assembly speaker, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is exploring strategies to stop the mass exodus.

Rumours are rife in the TDP circles that the party high command has decided to give a monthly salary to the leaders who are working for the party to show appreciation and also to encourage them to stop defections.

Leaders from village, mandal and district to the state level may get salaries depending upon their positions in the party. According to reports, the salaries may be anywhere between Rs 5,000 and Rs 40,000. State-level leaders who go on political tours may get incentives.

Sources said that the village level leaders would be paid in the range of Rs 4000 and Rs 5000 while district-level leaders will get Rs 10,000-20,000 per month.
