Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, an accused in multi crore chit fund scam, received bail on Friday, five months after his detention.

The Odisha High Court granted conditional bail to Bandyopadhyay stating that he is not allowed to travel abroad and has to submit Rs 25 lakh bail bond.

Justice J.P. Das, the judge, also asked Bandyopadhyay to deposit his passport to CBI, which is investigating the case.

Bandyopadhyay's wife, Nayana, said he has been granted bail on health ground. "He is very sick," said Nayana, a Trinamool MLA.

Bandyopadhyay has been staying in a private hospital in Odisha and, according to CBI, his hospital bill skyrocketed to Rs 17 lakh.

B. Raghabacharulu, CBI counsel, told the court sometime back that Bandyopadhyay had no major illness and that he was only given a few tablets to control gastric acidity.

However, Nayana said Bandyopadhyay was a patient of pancreatitis and was admitted to a private hospital in Delhi last days.

Bandyopadhyay is leader of Trinamool Congress in Lok Sabha.
