Vaastu-fears of KCR

If there is one person who is bent on building over green spaces, you don't have to look too far. It is the Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao. Several chief ministers have come and gone from the existing secretariat and at least two of them ruled for two terms, but that is not enough for the vaastu-fearing KCR. And so he chopped a couple of old trees, built another road for himself and tried to make his entry into the secretariat, vaastu friendly. For some reason he is not happy and functions entirely from Pragathi Bhavan, his home, office and all and sundry under one roof. But for some time now he had been eyeing the Parade Grounds, belonging to the military and also used by the common man when the army is not using it for its camps.

There was a lot of protest from the civil society and then in one fell stroke, KCR one day announced that he was not talking about the Parade Grounds at all and in fact he wanted the Bison Polo grounds. The civil society had been quietened and there was stunned silence for some time.

Defence ministry approval for new secretariat

In recent times news has come that the defence ministry has approved state government’s plea for construction of new secretariat on the Bison Polo ground, which is spread over a sprawling 30 acre land while the abutting Gymkhana ground is spread over 24 acre. Located in the middle of Secunderabad city, Bison Polo ground beings to the Indian army. The ground is located at a distance of 2 kms from Secunderabad Railway Station and half km from Begumpet Airport.

While the civil society has been silenced effectively with this tactic, the weak opposition the Congress is staging protests against KCR's decision to build a Secretariat at Bison Polo grounds, claiming that the CM is killing the green space in the name of vaastu.

Rural outreach and building model constituency

But probably all the empty noise that the Congress is making is having effect on KCR for he is trying to reach out to the rural folk and conducted a face-to-face programme with villagers of Laxmapur in Medchal district. This is to promote the slew of measures that the state government has taken, for holistic development of villages, including strengthening rural economy, sustainable agriculture and environmental protection. KCR's aim here is to revive rural economy and promote reverse migration. And in a generous mood, he also sanctioned Rs 15 crore for its development, including construction of multi-purpose hall, roads, bus shelters, dhobi ghat, dumpyard, crematorium and drainage system. And works had to be completed within six months.

And while giving officials sleepless days and night, KCR announced that he wanted to make Gajwel Legislative Assembly Constituency a model Constituency in the country. This included various aspects of development including drinking water supply under Mission Bhagiratha programme, power supply, roads and toilets construction, public health, educational institutions construction, construction of crematoria, setting up of Vegetable and meat markets, double bedroom housing programme for the weaker sections and issues related to agriculture.

This will be KCR's pet project because it is his assembly constituency. But Hyderabad still cries for better roads, a good transport system and a jam-free traffic, which will give commuters stress free days.
