A legislator from Telangana faced the ire of netizens after a video clip in which he is seen abusing a lady, went viral. A Member of Legislative Council (MLC), Farooq Hussain of the ruling TRS party, was captured holding his footwear and directing it towards his landlady.

The incident took place on Monday morning in Hyderabad when Amtul Wasay went to the flat in Lakdikapul and asked the politician to vacate. An argument ensued leading to the MLC hurling expletives at the owner, who is a United States citizen. In the video, Farooq is seen attempting to attack the accompanying family members.

“My sister was abused just for asking him to vacate the property,” said Mohd Mujtaba Alvi, brother of the flat owner, Amtul Wasay, who recorded the video.

“This man has been troubling us for months now. He pays a very low rent for the three bedroom flat we rented out to him. He has been living in the flat for six years. Since two years, we have been requesting him to vacate but he does not care,” said Alvi.

According to him, his sister landed in Hyderabad on Sunday night only to confront Farooq.

“He said that we cannot do anything to him even when he knew that we were recording him. Since he is a member of the ruling party and an MLC, he thinks he can behave however he wants. Had I not recorded what happened there, criminal cases would have been slapped against me by Farooq,” he said.

The family members approached the Nampally police station and a case has been booked against the MLC. However, Alvi and his sister accuse the police officials of being hand-in-glove with the TRS leader as cases were booked under bailable sections despite showing the video evidence.

“We want a land grabbing case booked against Farooq,” said Alvi.

Despite repeated attempts, Farooq Hussain could not be reached for his reaction on the episode.

The one-and-half minute video clip, which was shot on Monday morning, went viral within hours. The video was shared widely on messaging apps and social media platforms. Many not only condemned the behaviour of the legislator but also demanded that he be suspended from the party for behaving like an anti-social.
