The year witnessed escalated offences in Jammu and Kashmir by militants, with support from Pakistani forces, resulting in both, Army and civilian casualties. The gravest among the attacks took place in Uri on September 18 in which 19 soldiers lost their lives. There were several major and minor attacks in which several soldiers were martyred and civilian lives were lost.
India countered Uri attack by carrying out a 'surgical strike' on the terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). Army said it inflicted “significant casualties” among the “terrorists and those providing support to them”.
