Even as the topic of triple talaq is being hotly debated and discussed across the country, strange tales of divorce are coming out of Uttar Pradesh.
In Firozabad district of western Uttar Pradesh, a husband divorced his wife through triple talaq for asking Rs 20 for her daughter. He also took away their daughters with him.
Shanu, who works in a factory in Firozabad, married Shazia five years ago and they have two daughters. The couple used to fight frequently. A few days ago, when Shazia asked Rs 20 for buying sweets for their daughters, Shanu refused to give her the money, beat her up and divorced her on the spot.
Shazia sought the help of police, but in vain.
In another incident, a man divorced his wife through SMS. Ash Azad divorced his wife Salma by sending her the message 'talaq' three times through SMS.
Salma alleged that Azad and and her in-laws were troubling her, demanding a dowry of Rs 5 lakh. A few weeks ago, Azad took Salma to Dadri railway crossing and left her there. After reaching back home, he sent her the divorce message.
In yet another case, a man divorced his wife by sending her a letter containing the word 'talaq' via post in 2015. Gulshan, who married Nazma in 2012, divorced her through a postal letter after which he married another woman.
The aggrieved woman approached Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who promised to help her.
