In 2013 and 2014, she was featured in Forbes list of 100 most powerful women. She is also arguably the most powerful woman in the country. As Congress President Sonia Gandhi celebrates her 70th birthday, here are a few lesser known facts about her.

* Sonia Gandhi was born Edvige Antonia Albina Màino in Lusiana, Veneto, Italy in the year 1946. Her father Stefano Maino owned a small construction business

* She worked as a waitress in a Greek restaurant during her student days. It was at this hotel that Rajiv Gandhi first met her.

* Their love story began with Rajiv Gandhi sending her a bottle of wine and a poem written for her on a napkin

* The first movie they saw together was Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali

* Sonia Gandhi's maiden visit to India was in January 1968

* She can speak nine languages, including French and German

* Sonia Gandhi has done a course in art restoration and painting

* In 1984, she joined the National Gallery in New Delhi as an art historian and worked on restoring Indian landscapes painted by English artists

* She collected and edited the letters between Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru which was published later
