An Indian soldier was killed on Tuesday in firing by Pakistani troops from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, official sources said.

Rifleman Vimal Finjani of Gorkha Rifles was killed when the Pakistan army violated the 2003 ceasefire in Naugam sector of the LoC.

"The soldier was killed after being hit by sniper fire," a defence ministry source said in Srinagar.

This is the second incident of a soldier's death in cross-border firing in two days.
