Soldier, BSF trooper, two civilians killed in Pak firing

A Lance Naik was killed at Sunderbani sector, Rajouri in Jammu after Pakistan army initiated indiscriminate firing and shelling at 1.30 pm on Friday.

Sam Abraham, 34, hails from Poonakam in Alappuzha district of Kerala. He is survived by his wife Anu Mathew and a 22-month-old daughter.

The Army described Abraham as a brave and sincere soldier who laid down his life for the country.

Earlier, two civilians and a BSF head constable were killed and 26 others were injured after Pakistan Rangers targetted RS Pura and Arnia sectors of Jammu, Ramgarh and Ghagwal in Samba districts and Rajbagh in Kathua.

The Rangers fired heavy 120 mm mortars and other heavy weapons resulting in the death of two civilians.

The slain BSF head constable was identified as Jagpal Singh.

“On Jammu IB, retaliating unprovoked fire from Pakistan forces, Head Constable Jagpal Singh of 173th battalion attained martyrdom today. Director General of BSF and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of Head Constable Jagpal Singh and offer condolences to the family of brave-heart,” tweeted the BSF.

''Pakistan violated ceasefire in RS Pura and Arnia sectors of Jammu, Ramgarh and Ghagwal in Samba districts and Rajbagh in Kathua,'' a police spokesman said. 

The shelling and firing from Pakistan have taken the death toll to five in the last 24 hours.

The shelling created panic in border areas and many people fled to safety.

The authorities used mobile bulletproof bunkers to remove people to safe areas from RS Pura and Arnia.

The district administration also set up lodging facilities for the border residents at Bishna and RS Pura. 

There were reports that many cattle have been killed in the heavy firing and shelling by Pakistan

The district administration in Samba evacuated 35 people from Ramgarh last night.

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Friday met the injured in hospital.
