The singer, an evident canine lover, is known for her comments on animal rights and other social issues. In another tweet, she hailed Chennai police for quickly nabbing the culprits.

Two medical students—Gautam Sudarshan and Ashish Paul—were arrested after a video showing one of them throwing the dog off the terrace, went viral on social media triggering an outrage. The dog was found alive by some rescuers who took them to the Madras Veterinary College. The doctors said that the extent of her injuries are so severed that she will be crippled for life.

The accused—both are final year medical students of Madha Medical College, Kundrathur, Chennai—were later granted bail.
