A major fire broke out  at the ordnance factory at Khamaria (OFK) in Jabalpur on Saturday evening leading to huge explosions and fireworks. An emergency has been declared in the town and all the fire tenders around the city have rushed to the site.

Many workers have been reportedly injured. Located on the outskirts of Jabalpur, ordnance factory at Khamaria is one of the biggest in central India.

Set up in 1942, the factory is currently run by the Ministry of Defence. It manufactures ammunition components like fuse, shells, primer and cartridge case for medium and high caliber ammunition. It also specialises in explosive filling and assembly of medium and high caliber arms and ammunition.

Senior police officers have rushed to the spot. More details are awaited.

This is the second blast of this kind in less than 48 hours in Madhya Pradesh. On Friday, another ordnance factory in Itarsi, around 70 kilometres from Bhopal, witnessed explosions.
