Five students were drown in Dharmasagar reservoir at Warangal district of Telangana after they fell into the water while taking a selfie.
The deceased were identified as Patti Sravya Reddy (19), Pollineni Vinootna (18), Karne Sivasai (19), P. Sivasaikrishna (20) and Upalla Srinidhi (19)—all of them are final year students at Vagdevi Engineering College.
Ramya Pratyusha, who also fell in the water, however, managed to escape.
The tragedy took place after Pratyusha tried to take a selfie along with others standing on a rock in the middle of the water. However, with the monsoon still on, the rock was slippery and she slipped and fell into the water. The other students also got into the water to save Pratyusha.
Though the students apparently knew swimming, all of them except Pratyusha drowned as the water level was high in the reservoir. Bodies of the students were recovered with the help of police and locals. An investigation is on into the incident.
